  • Can I participate if my box doesn’t host?

Yes. You can register at any host. Try to convince your box to become a host. Tell them to get their fingers AMRAPPING the keyboard to our website and check it out!

  • There is not a TRU Challenge near me. Can my box participate?

Yes, but your box will have to be sure they apply to host and are approved at least 12 weeks before the upcoming event.

  • Can I participate if I work out at home and don’t belong to any box?

Yes. You can register even if you are not a member of a gym.

  • Can I participate if I don’t do functional fitness?

Yes, but you should be sure to understand and practice the movements associated with the WODs.

  • When does the event start and finish?

Check in at most Hosts is 8:00 am with a start time of 9:00 am but Hosts can choose a different time. If concerned, ask the Host using the “Contact Us” button on the Host’s registration page.

The finish time varies depending on the number of athletes and the length of the workouts.

  • Are there prizes for the athletes?

Yes, every podium Athlete will get a custom TRU Challenge medal and some swag! Awards will be issued to the top three in each division (Male Novice, Male Intermediate, Female Novice, Female Intermediate, Male Masters, Female Masters, and Male & Female of all 5 Adaptive Divisions).

  • Should I register in the Intermediate or Novice division? I’m not sure.

Ask your coach and review our Divisions page where we provide guidelines to help you decide. We like to see Athletes challenge themselves and go intermediate if they can do the movements safely. However, if you are not sure you can handle the movements safely we suggest you enter as a novice.

  • How do you deal with an athlete who is overqualified for their division?

All we can do is all we can do. We frown upon those who intentionally register in a division easier than their ability. Meaning that they register as a novice Athlete when they are clearly an intermediate Athlete. Can we stop them? Not really. If you’re an Rx Athlete please let the newer, less advanced Athletes have a shot! If you’re a definite Intermediate then go Intermediate and give the real Novice Athletes a chance!

  • I’m trying to decide if I’m overqualified for intermediate. I’m only over on one of the benchmarks. Does that make me overqualified?

    No. Register and have fun.

  • My Host is sold out. Can I get on a waitlist?

Yes. When a host reaches their capacity we close registration. When you try to register we direct you to a waitlist form.

  • Can I get a refund?

In our terms of service on the registration page we clearly state that all payments are final and there are no refunds, regardless of reason (injury, illness, change in work schedule, deployment, etc.)

  • Can I transfer my registration to another Host?

Yes (until about 10 days before the event). You can update and transfer yourself to another host from your Competition Corner dashboard.  For a step by step walkthrough, head over to the Competition Corner help center.

  • Can I change my registration information?

Yes. You can update all your registration details including, Team Name, Adding/Substituting Team Mates, Shirt Size, Division, etc. from your Competition Corner dashboard. For a step by step walkthrough, head over to the Competition Corner help center.

  • How close to the day of the event can I register?

You can register until 7 days prior to the event. If you want to compete don’t wait too long. You knew we’d say that.

  • Is there an age limit to compete?

Yes. With parent’s signature and Host permission you can compete from age 13 upward.

  • Do all team members need to be identified before resitration?

You may sign up with a single team member, and add the remaining members later. Check the option “Identify Team Mate Later” within the registration process.

  • Can a Host alter the WODs or deviate from TRU Challenge specifications?

The WODs cannot be changed since that would invalidate host to host comparisons. An individual athlete can alter the WODs for safety issues but then they cannot win because altered movements don’t count in your score.

  • Are the WODs back to back or is there rest time between WODs?

Unless the Host designed really weird heats there is rest time between WODs. When you finish a WOD you will be able to watch other athletes before you move on to your next WOD.

  • Can I bring my own speed rope for single or double unders?

Yes, you may bring your own rope. Your rope is the only apparatus you may bring of your own. You cannot use your own bars or kettlebells etc.

  • I’m 45+ years of age and want to do the Masters division but I like the loads or movements of the Intermediate division. Can I do those but compete in Masters?

No, if you are capable of doing the Intermediate-level WODs and you want to do those you have to enter as an Intermediate. The Masters division is using the loads and performing the movements of the Novice division. You can’t mix and match.

  • I have a problem during registration. What should I do?

Contact us or if you have any technical questions about Competition Corner, you can contact them at [email protected]

  • Can we volunteer to help?

Each host handles their own volunteers. If you would like to help, contact the Host using the “Volunteer” button on the Host’s registration page and complete the volunteer form.

  • Is there a charge for spectators?

A Host might decide to charge for spectators but that is unusual. If concerned, ask the Host using the “Contact Us” button on the Host’s registration page.
